1000 AMISOM troops to leave Somalia by 2017

Under an agreement between the African Union and the U.N. Security Council the number of all African peacekeepers in Somalia will be reduced by 1,000 by 2017, according a report by the Washingpost.

Some 281 Ugandan troops are already withdrawn Somalia duty and to leave the country by 31st December 2017.

 

The AU is expected to withdraw all its 22,000 troops from Somalia by the end of 2020, where Somalia national army to fake full control of the country from foreign troops.

The African Union deployed troops to Somalia to support the interim federal government in 2007, but remained ineffective and prolonged the war against Al-shabab which many Somalis believe them wanting to overstay.
