CALL FOR JOB APPLICATIONS (4 POSITIONS) FOR PUNTLAND STATE MICRO-NUTRIENT SURVEY 2018

INTRODUCTION

In partnership with Puntland State Ministry of Health (MOH), UNICEF is supporting the 2018 Micronutrient Survey. This survey will assess the nutrition and micronutrient status in children 6-59 months, non-pregnant women 15-49 years of age, and pregnant women. This will be done by conducting household interviews, and by collecting questionnaire data, salt and water samples, anthropometric measurements and urine and blood samples from children and women. The survey field work is planned to take place between August and September 2018.
BrandPro Consultancy and Ministry of Health (MOH) of Puntland invites applications from Qualified candidates in Punt-land for the following positions in the below listed target regions/clusters.

Since majority of the survey work will include interviewing and collecting samples from women and children, the implementing agency highly encourages qualified female candidates to apply.

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR EACH POSITION

TEAM LEADER- Reports to Strata Coordinator

Qualification and experience

Minimum of a Diploma in health, social science, or other relevant fields;
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in leading survey field teams;
Experience in reading and using maps (paper-based and tablet-based) to locate households is strongly preferred;
Prior experience with any other relevant health and nutrition surveys
Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise field teams;
Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and troubleshoots issues related to teamwork, surveys, etc.
Must be fluent in both Somali (local dialect) and English
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Must be of sober habits and able to work under tight conditions and deadlines
Candidates that are registered in National Health Professional Council and/or Puntland Health Professional Associations are also preferred.

Responsibilities

Understand all aspects of data collection and supervise its timely and correct implementation following all appropriate procedures specified in the field manual.
Communicate with MNS teams and provide daily technical and operational support
Keep in daily contact with the strata coordinator and zonal/National coordinator during the field work.
Request support from a community-based health worker, local administrations for the cluster, if possible.
Make sure the necessary supplies and equipment are ready prior to each day of field work.
Manage the work flow in the cluster and maintain all documentation regarding the completion of the cluster
Lead and take part in the HH interview
Organize transportation or provide directions for HHs members to the field lab
Lead and take part in collection of required samples from households
Ensure cold chain is maintained in the field
Oversee the work performance of the team members
Ensure labels are appropriately used and forms completed correctly
Review all data collection forms for consistency and completeness.
Review all data collection forms daily for consistency and completeness. Perform edits to the paper version micronutrient questionnaire in red ink. If missing values are identified, try to resolve them the following day while the team is in the cluster.
Serve as a back-up for the team; assist team members if they need help.
Ensure any difficulties with equipment/supplies are communicated to the survey coordinator asap
Troubleshoot any problems with fieldwork.
Remain flexible for accepting any reasonable tasks assigned that are not listed above.

INTERVIEWER – Reports to Team Leader

Qualifications
A minimum of diploma / degree in health-related or research-related field, such as nutrition, public health, nursing, laboratory studies, economics, statistics, etc. The applicant should be a) fluent in both Somali (Puntland dialect)and English and b) proficient with smart devices (e.g. smart phone, tablets, computers). Prior experience with (smart nutrition survey) household-based surveys is an added advantage.
Responsibilities (will depend on the survey)

Travel to selected enumerations areas (EAs) throughout Puntland, even to remote areas
Support the team leader to conduct household listing and random selection of households with each selected EA
Introduce the survey and data collection process to the selected households
Read the consent form and obtain informed consent from a responsible family member
Conduct household, child, and women interviews using a tablet computer
Read the questions on the data collection form and accurately record the responses given
Interview all required members in the household (i.e. household head, child caretaker, and women)
Follow all procedures specified in the field manual
During the survey training, the best-performing interviewers will be promoted to team leader. The team leader position will have additional roles and responsibilities (e.g. oversee the completion of the data collection forms; review forms upon completion of interviews for accuracy, ensure correct labeling of food and biological specimens, oversee cold chain,etc)

ANTHROPOMETRIST – Reports to Team Leader

Qualifications
Diploma/certificate in health-related field, such as nutrition, public health, nursing, etc. The applicant should be a) fluent and literate in both Somali (Puntland dialect) and English and b) should have prior experience measuring the height and weight of children in a survey or clinical setting. Current students in health-related field are also encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities (will depend on the survey)

Travel to selected communities throughout Puntland, even to remote areas
Support the team leader to conduct household listing and random selection of households with each community
Serve as the “Measurer” of the anthropometry sub-team
Record the height and weight measurements of all individuals
Complete all anthropometry sections of the biological form
Assist the phlebotomist with the urine / blood collection during the day, and sample processing in the evenings
Provide support to cold chain
Follow all procedures specified in the field manual

PHLEBOTOMIST – Reports to Team Leader

Qualifications
Diploma/certificate in health-related field, such as nutrition, public health, nursing, lab technician,etc. The applicant should be a) fluent and literate in both Somali (Puntlanddialect) and English and b) experience in malaria or nutrition survey. Current students in health-related field areencouraged to apply. Candidates with previous work experience cold chain management, sample handling or similar survey experience, public health will have an added advantage.University degree is desired but not a requirement.
Responsibilities (will depend on the survey)

Travel to selected communities throughout Puntland, even to remote areas
Support the team leader to conduct household listing and random selection of households with each community
Serve as the “Assistant” of the anthropometry sub-team
Collect blood samples from heel (for children 6-11 months) and finger (older children and women)
Measure hemoglobin and malaria status in selected children and women, and make sure all samples are correctly labeled
Complete all phlebotomy sections of the biological form
Lead urine / blood collection during the day, and sample processing in the evenings (anthropometrist to assist with these tasks)
Ensure the cold chain is maintained always, and biohazardous materials are disposed of safely
Follow all procedures specified in the field manual

LENGTH AND PERIOD OF ENGAGEMENT:

The field work data collection is expected to start in August 2018 and the duration will depend on the assigned region and the number of clusters.
