SOS Children’s Villages Somalia has officially been working in Somalia since 1985. SOS is currently working in 134 countries worldwide. We also run education and health facilities. With the SOS Children’s Village concept, the organization pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children. Job Title: Child Safeguarding & Child Protection Coordinator
Location: Mogadishu
Job Summary:
The mission of the National child safeguarding & Child Protection coordinator is to promote, coordinate and support the implementation of the Child Protection Policy and related child safeguarding policy support documents in the member association and all its programmes in order to mitigate existing child safeguarding risks for children and young people who are directly and indirectly cared for and supported through SOS Children’s Villages Programmes. She/he will be functionally be supported by the National Programme Development & Strategy Adviser and Regional Child Safeguarding Adviser. S/he will also provide technical support in Child Protection, Gender designing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation within SOS Children’s Villages Somalia Programs.

Report To:
Key Areas of Responsibilities
§ Coordinate the implementation of the Child Protection Policy and related child safeguarding policy support documents in the member association
§ Ensure that the minimum requirements of the policy support document on child safeguarding reporting and responding procedures in member associations and the policy support document on child safeguarding investigations are met by the member association and all its programmes, provide support to programme child safeguarding teams
§ Coordinate the development and prioritization of National CS actions during the annual planning process
§ Conduct annual child safeguarding audit in all programmes of the member association
§ Identify and promote collected lessons learnt as well as identified challenges with a strong focus on prevention and capacity building
§ Prepare annual child safeguarding report and submit the report to the National Director.
§ Ensure establishment of a strong and reliable child safeguarding reporting and responding procedure in the member association
§ Maintain the National Child Safeguarding Incident Register
§ Follow up on reported CS concerns and incidents together with the programme CS team
§ Ensure that relevant child safeguarding documents and tools are available to child safeguarding team members at national and programme level
§ Identify capacity building needs on child safeguarding at National level and in programmes and in coordination with HR supports development and implementation of necessary training tools and processes
§ Facilitates internal and external knowledge sharing on child safeguarding with a strong focus on prevention and capacity building
§ Participate in the regional child safeguarding network.
§ Directly provide and facilitate CP technical support, training and advice to all program staff in SOS Children’s Villages Somalia as the Child Protection Focal Point
§ Maintain strong working relationships with
§ Participate proactively as a team member and form culturally appropriate, professional working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, including children, young people and families
§ Manage and develop staff and partner engagement and capacity in program implementation
§ Develop strategies which increase child and youth participation opportunities, volunteering and leadership.
Child Protection Program Management
§ Support child protection situation analysis to ensure that evidence based data on child protection are available to guide our work.
§ Implement SOS Children’s Villages Child Protection Program activities in line with donor guidelines and with agreed program objectives and outcomes
§ Mainstream Child Protection in the delivery of Programs to ensure SOS CV program demonstrates accountability to children and achieve desirable outcomes.
§ Produce and deliver quality periodic reports to donors and SOS Kinderdorf International
§ Participate in strategic program discussions in identifying program priorities, developing work plan and risk mitigating strategies to delivering the Child Protection Programs
§ Design and implement monitoring tools and systems to provide data required for donor reporting, compliance reporting and the Child Protection Initiative key result areas
Qualifications and Experience
Master or Bachelor degree in Social Work, Human Rights, Child Protection or relevant field.
3 Years relevant working experience with International organization
Extensive experience, progressively responsible, working in child protection programming, preferably in Somalia.
Extensive experience in building strong child protection systems and in delivering services to children, including in emergencies.
Proven representation and advocacy skills.
Extensive experience in child and youth participation and training.
Familiarity with key international standards for humanitarian work (e.g. Child Protection Minimum Standards, SPHERE, HAP Principles, etc.) and international documents related to children rights (e.g. UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, UN Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children).
Ability to assess and analyse risks, children’s emotional, psychological and developmental need and family functioning.
Competencies on monitoring and evaluation of Child safeguarding mechanisms implemented.
Excellent written and oral communications skills in English.
Ability to work under pressure and willingness to work flexible hours in the event of major emergencies.
Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in.
Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner.
Commitment to SOS Children’s Villages values, including willingness to abide by and enforce the Child Protection policy.
Ability to provide technical guidance, support and monitoring to national teams in the area of child safeguarding.
