CARE INTERNATIONAL IN SOMALIA.
CARE International is an international NGO working in Somalia. CARE and its partners work with vulnerable communities to address the underlying causes of poverty and promote peace and development, as well as mitigating immediate suffering caused by drought, conflict and displacement.
CARE Somalia’s Emergency Program is currently seeking applications from experienced professionals to fill the position of Hygiene Promoter. The position will be based in Bosaso, Puntland with frequent travel to the field regularly for project implementation and technical support
Reporting to WASH/HP officer, the Hygiene promoter will be responsible for carrying out fieldwork in order to mobilize communities, monitor activities, and provide support to project management and other team members for the effective and efficient implementation of the project’s activities at the community level.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Help identify key hygiene practices to be addressed and participate in carrying out appropriate activities to promote safe practices
Help plan and carry out activities with the community to reduce WASH-related risks. Keep daily record of Care Somalia materials used in the field
Collect and record data on routine activities and share with Supervisor
Participate in gathering of data during needs assessments, baseline survey, and other assessments.
Act as a link between the community leaders, the community and other stakeholders in the area with Care Somalia WASH response team
Support to water committees, sanitation committees and other community groups Participation in organizing and carrying out hygiene promotion and campaigns
Participation in community based solid waste management initiatives Act as a link between the community and the organization
Mobilize the community to participate in the project and encourage all groups to participate in the project
Ensure timely completion of project activities according to the weekly and monthly Plans.
Keep track of CARE resources, materials and equipment and ensure their safety and proper use Be a good steward by ensuring that project materials and resources are used effectively.
Ensure that WASH activities are integrated with other activities for optimum benefit of the beneficiaries.
Ensure that the vulnerable people also benefit from the project. Conduct other activities as directed by the supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS)
Qualification in Health promotion, community development, or it related subject.
At least three years of professional experience in WASH /environmental health and community mobilization.
Able to communicate effectively and build strong relationships with people in the community Able to work independently and act on own initiative.
Good negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Previous experience working in a similar role in another NGO/ humanitarian organization is an asset
Capable of producing reliable and timely reports and familiar with community research methods. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE.
Prior knowledge/training/experience on Health, hygiene, community development Strong communication skills.
Good listening skills.
Sensitivity to the needs and priorities of different groups in the community Trustworthy
Numeric, literacy and record keeping skills
Good Communication skills
Hard worker, team player, and goal oriented Flexible and well organized
