ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
Gargaar Relief & Development Organization (GREDO) is a local Somali non-governmental organization based in Baidoa, Somalia but which has sub-offices and carries out humanitarian activities in the regions of Bay, Bakool, Lower Shabelle and Banadir. GREDO is an indigenous non-profit, non-political and voluntary organization whose main objective is to reach grass-root communities affected by the prolonged conflict and recurrent cyclical natural disasters in Somalia. Established December 1992 out of a necessity and need for partnerships in relief programs and in response to the catastrophic humanitarian crises.

Job Summary

The incumbent will assist in data security and information systems management.

S/he will also provide user support in systems usage and functionality within the

GREDO offices in line with GREDO’s IT strategy, policies and procedures.

The position will also provide required IT support to projects from exiting 5 field/project offices in South & Central of Somalia.

Responsibilities

R1:  End User Support and Capacity Building (10%)

Assist in Investigating problems reported and take corrective action as appropriate.
Escalate problems and liaise with the Admin officer to request further resources support
Assist users with file management system, staff training and capacity building.

R2:  Technical Support (50%)

Assist in Implementation and support of IT systems &network installations in accordance with Organizational set policies and procedures
Undertake hardware moves between sites and offices as directed
Implement hardware and software upgrades as directed
Implement, monitor and support backup and data recovery as requested
Plan and undertake field and project support assignments as required (e.g. for standard maintenance programmes and support requests) as approved by the Operations Director
Investigate and report problems with office support systems e.g. photocopiers printers, scanners faxes etc.
Investigate, compile, record, prioritize and coordinate with GREDO Microsoft Dynamics system developers to solve any technical, system bugs and errors.
Ensure all GREDO offices have working internet connections at all times with the right affordable internet plans
Liaise with Internet Service Provider with any connectivity issues, and approved bill payments, plan changes and top ups.
Maintain Firewall to control the use of the internet connections to only gadgets that are used for the organization’s business and to establishes a barrier between a trusted internal network and untrusted external network

R3:  Asset Management (30%)

Maintain asset register of IT equipment – hardware, software, radio, network, Equipment and other furniture, fixture & equipment.
Track and control the movement of equipment between sites and temporary off site work.
Track and control equipment being added to the network by visiting staff and consultants ensuring compliance with procedures for such movements and data exchange
Keep a file of maintenance and support contracts.
Keep a schedule and log of maintenance work completed by contractors.
-Maintain a schedule of hardware and software upgrades (e.g. virus protection) and ensure all PCs are kept up to date with operating systems patches and antivirus software

R4: IT Administration (10%)

Liaises closely with:

IT users and field management
HR & Admin Officer and Operations Director for any IT issues that needs higher level decision making

General Responsibilities

Any other duties as assigned by Operations Director.

Required Qualifications ( minimum requirements)

3.1 Education/Training

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science or any other related IT Degree from recognized college

 3.2 Experience (minimum requirement)

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in busy computerised environment involving upgrades, troubleshooting, testing and maintenance of PCs
Helpdesk experience
Ability to communicate effectively and to deliver training programmes
Knowledge of communications systems: HF/VHF radios ,internet technology and network security systems
Knowledge of Generators, UPS, electrics, inverters and Solar Power
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Good organization, planning and management skills
Innovative
Ability to work under pressure

Willingness to work long hours to achieve results.
3.3 Technical Skills

Knowledge of PC, network architecture and cabling systems: , Windows 10 server, Windows XP , Ethernet, TCP/IP protocols and other Microsoft products

3.4 Desired
MCSE/CCNA or other IT professional qualifications preferred
