The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. UN-Habitat helps the urban poor by transforming cities into safer, healthier, greener places with better opportunities where everyone can live in with dignity. It works with organizations at every level, including all spheres of government, civil society and the private sector to help build, manage, plan and finance sustainable urban development. The post is located within the Somalia Programme, Regional Office for Africa (ROAF).
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programmes and the direct supervision of the Human Settlements Programme Officer based in Mogadishu , the incumbent will perform the following duties:
Assist in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding the security situation in the country:
Establish and maintain close working relations and collaboration with UNDSS in Mogadishu.
Communicate information and provide security advice to the Senior managers
Inform and update both the PMO and Head of Programmes of developments through regular written reports.
Organize and maintain country files and databases on security matters: compliance and risk assessments, security plans, staff and office directories, staff and dependents lists, GPS locations, UNDSS Travel Request Information Processing profiles, Security Certificates, equipment.
Update staff lists:
Responsible for updating and compiling field staff list
Send a daily staff movement list to UNDSS
Acts as Warden and report security incidents affecting UN Habitat staff, offices and assets to the UNDSS in MogadishuReport any security incident to Senior management immediately (by phone or email)
Conduct headcount and identify whereabouts of all staff in the field after a security incident Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of security incident report
Provide reliable and safe driving services for staff and officials
Drive office vehicle for the transport of UN Habitat staff and meeting official personnel at the airport
Assist in visa and custom formalities arrangements when required
Maintenance of assigned vehicle
Ensure vehicle is kept in good running condition at all times through timely replenishment of fuel, addressing minor repairs, making arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of spare parts , oil, check of tires, brakes, water levels and car washing;
Accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, first aid kit
Provide support to UN Habitat Staff Organize convoys for missions outside MIA
Follow up with service providers e.g. Chelsea Village, UNSOS for Wi-Fi and other services
Assist in procurement and maintenance of office supplies as required
EDUCATION Secondary Education; a valid driver’s license and knowledge of local driving rules and regulation
A minimum two years’ work experience in security, preferably in the military or police context or related field of work
Proficiency in English and Somali (both oral and written) is required.
Skill in minor vehicle repair; Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and defensive driving skills
