INTRODUCTION
Candlelight is seeking experienced and qualified trainer of Welding and metal fabrication skills training for youth trainees for a project entitled “Increased Social-Economic Resilience for youth and women in Somaliland, Marodi- Jeex Region, Hargeisa”.
The project is funded by the ministry of foreign affairs of Finland (MFA) disaster fund and is under implementation from April 2018 to March 2019. Through FCA with Partnership of Candlelight and support from MESAF and MOE. The project aim is to contribute socio economic resilience of youth and Women in six IDPs and host communities in Hargeisa; 120 youth and 110 women. The terms of reference, (ToR) defines the trainer’s roles, responsibilities and the requirements and competency of the trainers.
JOB SUMMARY
Welding and metal fabrication Skills Facilitator is responsible for organizing and delivering highly effective and engaging Welding and metal fabrication skills training sessions for youth based Somaliland MoE Vocational skills curriculum.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Organize highly interactive training sessions to equip students with key knowledge, and skills on Welding and metal fabrication skills
Prepare all the necessary materials for skills training sessions in a professional manner, by reviewing the course content and delivery methods on a regular basis such as lesson plans and their sequences,
Trainees progress records, lesson practice and trainees’ examinations records etc
Provide adequate practical sessions and skills on Welding and metal fabrication to the trainees in line with the provision of the course syllabus.
Ensure adherence to the teaching course content and syllabus.
Undertake daily attendance of the trainees especially during the morning hours.
Provide guidance, counseling and feedback to the trainees and take part in solving disputes among the trainees.
Provide the delivery of course material including test and inspection
Conduct five days of teaching per week. (Morning Session Saturday- Wednesday)
Evaluate trainees regularly with continuous assessment tests and other recommended methods of evaluation mechanisms practically.
Prepare and submit weekly/Monthly trainees’ progress reports to the Center Manager.
Prepares performance-based objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines and requirements
Prepare the practical and technical instructions, including demonstration of skills required in welding and metal fabrication and lectures in theory technique and terminology and assembles materials to be presented, reviews with supervisor as needed
Teach students in subject areas of use and maintenance, safe operation of the tools and equipment codes or regulations related to the welding and metal fabrication program
Teach the student the importance of accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness and good work habits in obtaining employment in industries that depend on welding and metal fabrication to build their products
Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignment to present or reinforce learning concepts; responds to basic student question may initiate study groups in preparation for exams.
JD for Welding and Metal Fabrication Skills (WMFS) Facilitator
Enforces classroom protocols, rules and regulations; maintains classroom discipline; utilizes effective classroom management techniques.
Train and explain deeply the tools, equipment, machinery and accessories appropriate in welding and metal fabrications
Assess student’s learning during the class, give them feedback and correct homework as required
Carry out quality assurance procedures such as student self-assessment (Statements of learning), course review and evaluation procedures.
Provide guidance on how to use different personal protective equipment and how to handle them and store them appropriately
The trainer to encourage trainees on how to practice lessons learnt on their own to practice more
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
A Diploma/advanced certificate of Welding and metal fabrication or equivalent or a combination of relevant experiences and related Knowledge based life skills with a minimum of 2 years of experience support in unemployed youth education, and income generation.
A bachelor of related field of work with be an added advantage
A trainer has a practical teaching methodology and industrial experience
A proven ability to work with disadvantaged marginalized youth.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
A solid teaching methodology and processing methods experience
A proven ability to mentor, coach or train individuals in practical and technical skills, life skills and leadership, etc.
Experience in skills training or workshop facilitation
Experience in starting a small business, working within a start-up business or academic training in vocational skills would be a strong asset.
Monitoring and evaluation skills.
Competency in provision of theory and practical lessons.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
