UAE pay-per-click bloggers and bots target Somalia

United Arab Emirates’ funded bots and bloggers have launched a social
media war on Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo as
relations between the two Arab League countries deteriorated following the

recent signing of the controversial $1 billion Berbera Port deal.

The hashtag Somalia Want Farmaajo Out started by UAE mercenaries and bloggers had been

trending on twitter from Thursday since Somalia sent a protest a letter to
the Arab League seeking the intervention of the Berbera tripartite deal that
gave stakes to Dubai company DP World, Ethiopia and Somaliland.

More than
200 accounts some newly started and others verified have been involved in
what is seen as a well coordinated and sponsored propaganda against

President Farmaajo and the Somali government.

In defense, Bile Abdisalam, Somali Journalist tweeted : Using bots and fake accounts to

spread fake news against Somalia — will not stop it to recover. Somalia

will stand strong, and defend itself against foreign interference.

Other users pointed out other issues.
